Discussing White Fragility

Plymouth's Racial Equity Committee invites you to join a discussion around the book White Fragility: Why is it So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism by Robin DiAngelo. "White Fragility" refers to the defensive moves that white people make when challenged racially and is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt, and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent any meaningful cross-racial dialogue. In her book, DiAngelo examines how white fragility develops, how it protects racial inequality, and what we can do to engage more constructively. A series of discussions will begin this March. Visit the Racial Equity table in the church narthex to borrow a copy of the book and/or to sign up to participate in this conversation.
